Martin Automatic Secures Order From Italian MPS User

Posted: February 26, 2007

Martin Automatic, the leading international manufacturer of roll handling systems has secured a major order from one of Italy's leading label converters and suppliers of label and identification systems, Arca Etichette SpA.

The new equipment, due for installation by Martin engineers in August 2007, is an MBS automatic butt splicer, with 90° turner bar assembly and an LRD automatic transfer rewind unit. Capable of splicing rolls up to 800 mm in diameter at speeds of 152 m/min, the MBS will handle opaque and transparent non extensible pressure sensitive label stocks currently being converted on the company's Dutch built MPS 410 press.

The Martin MBS system includes an inertia compensated festoon, a patented splice unit to make non overlapping butt splices, and two cantilevered unwind positions, with Martin's lift and load roll loading system. Owing to tight space restrictions on the production floor, the MBS splicer will be installed at 90° to the press line. It will be custom designed to be slightly smaller than standard, with a space saving festoon configuration.

The LRD transfer rewind has a moving cantilevered spindle arrangement that permits rewinding and automatic doffing of rolls as small as 200 mm in diameter with only two spindles. The AC vector drive package, with dancer tension control, adds tension accuracy and flexibility.

The two units are designed to minimise waste, reduce production times and improve profitability.
